Marigold Room | Pediatric Therapy
Taking inspiration from the imagination which children’s books foster, this space aims to act as a safe haven for the children of HighPointe Skilled Nursing Facility. Many patients of the pediatric long term care unit at the HighPointe spend much of their time within the walls of the hospital; a safe space that allows them to explore their creativity and imagination while furthering necessary developmental skills is imperative.
Inspired by the world of Mary Poppins, the environment leads to limitless possibilities. This design of the pediatric therapy unit provides adaptability, fun, and encourages forward progression for its varied users. This project was done in collaboration with other Interior Design students of varied year levels.

The design follows themes of creativity and imagination with a necessary focus on furthering patient developmental skills. Space is maximized through the chosen layout.
Therapeutic Play
All chosen materials consider the medical nature of the environment. The team made a point of selecting antimicrobial materials and surfaces that can be easily and effectively wiped clean.
Activity Area
Kaleida Health professionals working in the space expressed that a common goal of patients was to be able to climb the stairs of a school bus. A set of stairs intended to build this skill can be found in the corner.
Sensory Room
The sensory room acts as a safe space for patients. Elements such as a light up bubble wall, LED lights that can change colour, and an illuminated textured wall are used to achieve an adjustable sensory space.
